Audi At the PMS 2012 has finally materialized in 2012 Audi Crosslane Coupe Concept, a prototype that anticipates the future of SUV design of the Four Rings and the new technologies that the VW Group is developing.
Reduced weight. 2012 Audi Crosslane Coupe Concept adopts the formula of the crossover to three doors and follows the philosophy Audi Ultra for the reduction of the total mass. The Multimaterial Space Frame is made by combining aluminum, carbon fiber reinforced (CFR), and the new Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer (GFRP), thus limiting the total mass of 1.390 kg, despite the presence of lithium batteries and hybrid propulsion. Aluminum is used for the passenger cell, while the CFRP is used for the deformable structures front and rear and for many elements of the interior. The GRFP, reinforced with CFRP is used instead for the body. The result is a total mass comparable to that of 2012 Audi Crosslane Coupe Concept with monocoque carbon fiber, with reduced production costs.

Hybrid. 2012 Audi Crosslane Coupe Concept’s innovations continues in the mechanics, which provides a brand new three-cylinder 1.5 TFSI engine combined with two electric engines with single speed transmission, the result is a declared consumption of just 1.1 l/100 km and 26 g / km of CO2 emissions. The plug-in Hybrid delivers 177 hp total and to drive about 86 km in electric mode, thanks to the 17.4 kWh battery. In electric mode touches 100 km / h in 9.8 seconds, while exploiting the full power of the two units the time is reduced to 8.6 seconds, with a top speed of 182 km / h. The three-cylinder engine delivers 130 hp individually and 200 Nm of torque and is coupled directly to an electric motor (EM1) of 68 hp and 210 Nm, which works primarily as a generator. The second electric motor (EM2) from 116 hp and 250 Nm is instead positioned on the rear axle, thus providing a four wheel drive system devoid of mechanical connections and totally manageable by the electronics board
2012 Audi Crosslane Coupe Concept’s Dual-Mode. The hybrid system is definitive as Dual-Mode, seen that up to 55 km / h using only the electric motor EM2 powered by the batteries, while the internal combustion engine and the motor EM1 work to produce additional electricity for recharging, while at speeds above the 1.5 TFSI is actively involved in the push. Over 130 km / h the combustion eventually becomes the only engine used, assisted by EM1 if necessary. The driver can choose between the settings Cruise and Race for the sake of driving with zero emissions or power availability.
Size. Speaking purely stylistic, the 2012 Audi Crosslane Coupe Concept is 4.21 meters long, 1.88 wide 1.51 and high, with a wheelbase of 2.56 meters. The front is dominated by the single-frame grille, integrated with the structure of the stylistic components Multmateriale Space Frame in sight, while the headlights use LED Matrix technology of new generation. The 2012 Audi Crosslane Coupe Concept’s roof is made from two CFRP shells from the total weight less than 10 kg, which can be removed and stowed in the trunk, forming a cover for the luggage compartment, where the backrests of the two rear individual seats can be stowed electrically to form a plane optimal load. The front passenger seat of 2012 Audi Crosslane Coupe Concept can instead rely on structure in CFRP and a console is particularly innovative: the control elements are minimized and the inputs are handled by the central and multitouch surfaces can be controlled with your thumbs on the steering wheel spokes.
Everything in the ignition. All information gathered in the instrument, without the need for an additional screen in the middle of the bridge: the virtual display in front of the driver is able to provide a wide combination of screens to control all the functions of the board, the 2012 Audi Crosslane Coupe Concept’s system also provides the services Audi Connect will stay connected to the Internet: a special app called “Escape Manager” allows passengers to comment on the way they are facing with photos, video and text to send to your friends via social networks. 2012 Audi Crosslane Coupe Concept.
